The Department of War published release number 2 on the PURSUE portal (war.gov/UFO) on May 22, 2026, adding 64 files to the repository. Together, the first two releases hold 222 files.
The release is weighted toward video, with 51 video files, 7 audio recordings, and 6 documents. The Department of War contributed 52 of the 64 files. NASA, the Department of Energy, the CIA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence each contributed smaller portions, with counts of 7, 3, 1, and 1 respectively. Incident years named in the release span from 1948 to 2025.
Several of the indexed documents draw attention. A CIA intelligence information report, CIA-UAP-D001, concerns human intelligence activity in the USSR and references an incident from December 20, 1973. Three Department of Energy documents include a Pantex ground radar image, personal correspondence from Los Alamos physicist James Tuck from the 1970s regarding UAP, and a 1986 letter to the Pajarito Astronomers club about a presentation titled "Why Should a Scientist be Concerned about UFOs?" The index notes that Los Alamos has no record of the subject matter discussed at that meeting.
The Department of War file DOW-UAP-D017 covers a series of sightings near Sandia Base, New Mexico from 1948 to 1950. Its index entry states the file contains 116 pages from the Armed Forces Special Weapons Program and the U.S. Air Force, and that it documents 209 reported sightings of green orbs, discs, and fireballs near the base.
A NASA audio file, NASA-UAP-D010, is drawn from the Mercury Atlas 9 mission of May 15, 1963. The index states that pilot L. Gordon Cooper Jr. noted seeing what he called "John's fireflies" approximately one hour and 41 minutes into the flight, and that NASA later attributed the objects to frozen condensation separating from the spacecraft.
This story is written from the release's index on the PURSUE portal at war.gov/UFO; the files themselves are not read here.
